Alita Crosson
Born July 18, 2006

Education
My name is Alita Crosson and I graduated high school in 2024 in Southern Maine where I also attended Portland Arts and Technology High school studying dance for my last two years of school. I'm now attending Parsons School of Design where I am set to graduate with a BFA in Fine Arts in spring of 2028.
Background
I was born in 2006 and adopted in 2008 from Kathmandu, Nepal by my single mother who raised me in Maine. Throughout my childhood I danced and performed in shows like the Nutcracker and A Midsummer's Night's Dream. I knew from a very young age that art was the place I felt at home. In my darkest moments holding onto the dream of coming to New York to create was the only thing keeping me from spiraling downward. I love all art, performance, music, visual, conceptual it all means so much to me. Art allows me to feel everything which is cathartic being raised in a society that ridicules passion. Creating gives me hope and gives me an answer to the eternal question of life.
Growing up in Maine was difficult because I was isolated from my community. Now that I'm in New York I'm able to do and create the things I've wanted to do since childhood. I'm an only child and was forced to grow up at a young age to help aid my mildly disabled mother. My mother is the toughest woman I know. I started this project to repay the opportunity that the name Crosson has given to me. With my art I hope to make my family proud even if we are not blood related. They made me someone. I owe it to my mom and my family to do right by them.
